Amblyrhynchotes rufopunctatus

Li, 1962

Blake Auge Group of 8 small (5-6 inches) fish rapidly swimming by in 12-15 feet depth at Dayang Beach, Talicud Island, Philippines. Resemble something from the puffer fish family?

Vie Panyarachun They are puffers. Torquigener brevipinnis, I think. Not sure what the common name is...

Blake Auge Thank you Vie Panyarachun, it is aka Orange-Spotted Toadfish. Apparently unusual to find at such shallow depth.

Vie Panyarachun We have a few of these “mystery” puffers where I usually dive (Pattaya, Thailand) - probably including Torquigener brevipinnis, Amblyrhynchotes rufopunctatus (aka A. hypselogenion), Amblyrhynchotes honckenii, Chelonodon patoca, etc., etc. All look very similar (to me) and very hard/impossible to ID... :(
