Ophichthus cephalozona

Bleeker, 1864

Yorko Summer Yawning Blacksaddle Snake Eel (Ophichthus cephalozona) @ Lembeh Strait, Indonesia. Nikon D800E, Nikkor 105mm Macro, Inon Z240 Dual, 1/320, f36, ISO 320

Jessica Chiu How come this eel is without tooth???

Yorko Summer Maybe...his age is too old! All teeth are falling out! XD

Ron Silver With the pale patch in front of the eyes and the overhanging snout with large gray tubular nostrils, could this be the Black-Finned Snake Eel, Opichthus melanochir?

Scubashooters Dot Net Incredible shot Yorko!!! I have never seen a Eel with no teeth!!! Thanks for sharing! :)

Yorko Summer Hi! Ron~you might be right! cause I'm not so sure about it is Ophichthus cephalozona or Ophichthus melanochir.

Ron Silver Hard to tell unless you saw it out of the substrate. I believe its the latter based on the two features I mentioned.

Yorko Summer Thanks for point out anyway. There are so many things to learn of marine critters! : )

Stew Smith It's a great capture what ever one it is. Top marks

Franca Wermuth-Vezzoli Oh, what a nice name, thanks a lot Arne. Maybe next time it comes out of the hole and shows its dark shoulder!

Carl-Johan Nilsson Arne is dead on as usual.
