Erling Svensen This unknown ascidian have a lot "growing on its skin". Must not be very nice...
David Kipling Does give it good camouflage though! It always strikes me in the tropics that some solitary ascidians have a very thick layer of epibionts, whereas others are very clean.
Polycarpa aurata is one example that is very clean. Sometimes I've seen it appearing to shed a thin 'skin' like a snake, I wonder if this is a deliberate mechanism to reduce epibionts? A bit like the tear-off face visors on Formula 1 Driver helmets.
