Stuart Pearce Beautiful, one of my favourite species :)
Elly Jeurissen Thanks Stuart :-)
Ron Silver Unfortunately, this beautiful species has now become an exotic invasive species in the western Atlantic Ocean, Gulf of Mexico, and Caribbean Sea which is reeking havoc on our endemic reef fish species.
Tom Hobock Nice Lion-fish good to eat too! lol
Tony Strazzari Which just goes to show that living things in the wild have places they belong, and places they don't...and when WE (humans) move them to places they shouldn't be then nothing good happens. Here in Australia our environment is suffering from everything from rabbits and pigs, bitou bush and lantana to European carp...
Tom Hobock You are so right Tony,we never see the thing that change when we introduce new species in ecosystems
Mark Springs great shot
Elly Jeurissen Thanks Ron, Tom, Tony and Mark :-).
We have been diving in Bonaire a couple of years ago and dive centers asked divers to mark places where these lionfish were spotted. The dive centers formed groups who got out to these marked places and killed the lionfish because they were really destroying the natural habitat. You're so right Tony; that's what you get when man is interfering with nature....
Katherine Payne Juvenile Spotted Drum - Taken in Barbados
Imade Widana Nice fish, never see it
Ron Silver Imade, this is an Atlantic/Caribbean fish species which does not occur in your area.
Katherine Payne The Adult Spotted Drum looks like this...
Imade Widana Thanks Ron
Imade Widana One day hope see this fish in my ocean.
Ron Silver Be very careful what you hope for! In this area, the Lionfish (Pterois volitans) was introduced and is now considered an exotic invasive species which is causing incredible damage to our reef ecosystems. It has no natural predators and nothing to keep its population in check. It is eating many of our native species. Divers and fishermen are being encouraged to kill every Lionfish seen or caught. Fortunately, they are pretty good eating once the venomous spines have been removed.
Katherine Payne We kill them every chance we get...only started to see them here in the last yr...
Ron Silver :-D
Stuart Pearce Me and Ron differ on very few points, he is my oldest friend on FB, but I will stay out of this conversation LOL :D
Ron Silver I know how you feel about the Lionfish culls but imagine if the tables were turned and some exotic invasive species was introduced to say, Turkey for instance........
Katherine Payne I dont feel to bad for the Lion Fish...They breed too fast for culls to seriously do real damage anyway.....They also can survive at depths that divers cannot go....do not mean to sound hopeless but I think the culls are more to make us feel better about doing something....just my thought on it
Stuart Pearce Many introduced/invasive in the lagoon, and in the UK, me and Ron agree to differ on the lionfish culls, we both know many factors are at play, we will never agree on this one, that is science we debate from our own personal perspective of a situation. From my perspective, this is healthy, we both know the factors at play and stand by our points of view, healthy debate I hope :)
Katherine Payne :-)
Ron Silver OK, tastes like chicken! LOL
Stuart Pearce So you and Dave keep telling me LOL :D
Stuart Pearce Another lionfish shot from when we were doing repairs in a large public aquarium..
Tom Hobock Great shot Stuart keep em coming
Ron Silver Minor mis-spelling - Pterois volitans
John Paul Connor i like it Stuart
Ernst Andres Great shot Stuart !!!
Stuart Pearce Keeping me on my toes Ron LOL, just checked and spelling is correct on the others, must have been 3am in the morning :D
Ron Silver I hear you. I had been helping someone with an ID the other night/early morning and was rather proud of my result........then I get this sheepish reply that they could not find the species I had suggested. I went back and double-checked my ID and it was spot on. Then I checked my response and I had 'magically' transformed maculosa to maculata. LOL

Raffaele Livornese very nice...sono invidioso del fatto che voi fotografi con una certa esperienza abbiate dovuto e saputo scattare con la pellicola, immagino la difficolta' rispetto alle moderne digitali!!!!
Rosario Scariati Big Big Antonio Colacino
Enzo Vadalà .. Mar Rosso.?? Una miniera inesauribile.!!
Stuart Pearce Beauty :)
Antonio Colacino Credimi Raffaele è stato molto più difficile adattarsi alle digitali per tanti motivi, innanzitutto la qualità .
