Polymastia boletiformis

(Lamarck, 1815)

Jeremy Pierce Is this Polymastia boletiformis (Hegdehog sponge)??? Same dive as the previous post at the Mewstone reef Plymouth.

Jade Berman Yes as you can see the base is clear of overgrowth and tapering papillae.

Jeremy Pierce Thank you Jade Berman you learn something new every day!! :-)

Jade Berman No worries! I like keeping my sponge ID up!

Erling Svensen Hi everybody. Can anyone say if the Polymastia robusta was called P. boletiformis earlier? In Norway we call this one P. robusta, but at Bernards WEB-pages I can not find this specie. Have a feeling that he calles this sponge for P. boletiformis. We have also one that we call P. mammillaris, so I am a litle bit confused. Any one?

Tony Gilbert "Polymastia robusta" is a synonym of the sponge called "Polymastia boletiformis".
