Ericthonius punctatus

(Bate, 1857)

Carina Waiteman Rodrigues Hello everybody, I have a doubt. I am from Brazil, and in my samples I found a few Ericthonius punctatus with one male gnatophod 2 and one female gnatophod 2, plus that they have oostegites with setae and carring eggs (hermaphroditism or sexual reverse?). I am a little bit lost right now, do you know any cases about this? If someone could help me I appreciate it. Thanks!

Mikhail Daneliya does it have penis?

Jessika Alves Publica!

Mikhail Daneliya ok)) penile papilla

Natalia L. Demchenko Hello Carina! Hermaphroditism or sex cnange is possible for some amphipod species of different families and genera. Here is reference, where you can read about this problem: Ford A.T., Fernandes T.F. 2005. Notes on the Occurrence of Intersex in Amphipods. Hydrobiologia. 548:313â€"318.

Natalia L. Demchenko but Ericthonius has strong sexual dimorphism;-)

Вадим Тахтеев This are intersexual individuals. Features of males and females are present at the same time. Such are very rare, but there presented among the Baikal Lake amphipods.

Ormphipod Wongkamhaeng in Jassa there are two kinds of male; female-like male called minor and normal male are exist. You can read on this paper http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC1691093/

Carina Waiteman Rodrigues I could not see the penile papilla, but I will try again. Thanks you for all the comments I am going to search and read the articles that you suggest. Thanks again.
