Lutjanus sebae

(Cuvier, 1816)

Shauming Lo Any suggestion what kind of snapper they are? picture was taken at Dahican Beach, at 10m deep.

Shauming Lo You are very early Jun V Lao, how are you there ?

Jun V Lao hi Shauming, same old, boring peeps and spamming facebook with fish :P

Lee Goldman Juvenile Red Emperor Snapper (Lutjanus sebae).

Shauming Lo Thanks Lee Goldman. how to pronounce Sebae?

Timothy Christian Te Shauming Lo I know what you're thinking the pronounciation is. hahaha

Shauming Lo Hahaha thanks for reminding Christian

Nick Hope ID please! From Koh Tachai in the Thailand Andaman Sea. I would say about 40cm long, maybe as much as 50cm. Been puzzling me for a long time. Closest I can think of is a mature Lutjanus sebae, but doesn't seem quite right.

Richard Brooks Hmm good one Nick. I've seen these guys here in Palau a lot and for some reason never ID'd them either but something tells me they are a type of Grouper....

Nick Hope Richard you star! Redmouth grouper, Aethaloperca rogaa. The coloration in the ID books is usually very different, but that's the one. I've got a couple of other clips of it including one with the white bar across the belly. Decade-long mystery solved! :)

Blogie Robillo This fish was apparently sleeping and using the sea urchin for protection. Spotted this fish (and several others) in less than 5m of water, during a night dive. ID pls?

Eunice Khoo A juvenile Red Emperor snapper, Lutjanus sebae? Nice shot.

Blogie Robillo Thanks Eunice! I think you got it right!
