Bryan Hart Taken in 2 m of water free diving off a pier in Durban. Canon G 7 - no wet lens - F 8 , ISO 100 - 2 DS-160 Ikelite strobes on half power...

Cameron Easton Robust ghost pipefish Solenostomus cyanopterus?

Bryan Hart not sure? I was surprised to find them so shallow..

Cameron Easton My ID covers the tropical Pacific, though it does say this species ranges from East Africa I wasn't sure if it would go as far south as Durban - hence the question mark! The guide says 4-20 metres.

Cameron Easton Think it's the robust ghost pipefish Solenostomus cyanopterus

Stuart Pearce Very nice shot :)

Noriyuki Otani Thank you for your kindness, Cameron. :)

Noriyuki Otani Thank you, Stuart. :)

Ron Silver Cam, Allen/Steene/Humann/DeLoach point out the long tail base and opine that this could be a variation of the Robust and call it the Thin Ghost Pipefish, Solenostomus sp.

Noriyuki Otani Thank you, Ron. for detailed explanation. :)

Juan Antonio Torres Balaguer Very Nice

Noriyuki Otani Thank you, Juan. :)

Antonio Colacino Interesting creature, nice shot :)

Noriyuki Otani Thank you, Antonio. Their mimic is great! They look like real leaves. :)

Galina Maslova Cool pic

Noriyuki Otani Thank you, Galina. :)

Cameron Easton Ron - I swithered about this one. The long tail base might be a bit subjective, and I went the other way on the assessment. However, Solenostomus sp seems to be the safest bet - so happy to concur with your view.

Ron Silver Thanx. Just wanted to throw that out there and see if we could keep the lumper and splitter thing going! LOL

Cameron Easton I think that I'm a splitter by nature ........ my computer file system is certainly evidence for this!!!

Ron Silver :-D
