Ilan Lubitz My first upload to the group.
I admirer Nudibranches. (Phyllidia picta).
did you know that in Anilao Philippines we have 413 species
of Nudi.
Nikon D3X. 60mm. 2X SB -105
Marli Wakeling Actually Phyllidia picta.
Sven Kahlbrock Marli should be right, the yellow margin is missing arround mantle
Patrik Good Nice picture. Is 413 species your collection count? Is this species list published and accessible on the net? How many undescribed and how many endemic species are amongst them?
Ilan Lubitz Tnx Marli Wakeling for the correction (y)
Ilan Lubitz Patrik Good . based on nudi pixel http://www.nudipixel.net/locations/country/ph/ 413 species can be found in Anilao. my collection of Anilao nudys reach more then 250. the list is not yet published on the internet. (y)
Christopher Thorn Her Jie, Near wanlitong, Taiwan. 31/3/12. 10 m depth. approx 35 mm.
Blogie RobilloPhyllidia picta?
Ashley Missen Not Picta more like Phyllidia varicosa
Blogie Robillo What gave it away, Ashley?
Ashley Missen the 3 ridge lines going down the mantle - but I could be wrong but it is not a picta as they have seperated pustules
Blogie Robillo What are separated pustules?
Christopher Thorn Thanks for your input, much appreciated!
Ashley Missen the White Bits with the Yellow on top are normal on P. picta 1 bit surrounded by black
Blogie Robillo I see. Thanks Ashley!
Ashley Missen if you go to www.nudibase.com and filter by Family put in Phyllidiidae then filter by genus - Phyllidiidae the screen will show you the differences - Cheers Ash

Gary Cobb This is Phyllidia picta (Pruvot-Fol, 1957)
Philipp Ebert thanks
Gary Cobb My pleasure!
Philipp Ebert i have many more ... but the pictures are not that great..
Gary Cobb It is important to get photos of critters that show enough detail get an accurate ID. Nice work Philipp.
Philipp Ebert i got a new (old) camera. now that i found someone to specify them i will start taking more pictures of them and post them as well. thanks already --
Gary Cobb You're welcome...I have been doing just this for the past 8 years! Records of the species we find and our dives on the Sunshine Coast are documented on http://www.nudibranch.com.au
Blogie Robillo Mating pair of Phyllidia picta (?). The bigger one was about 4.5cm long. This was in less than 10m of water at Angel's Cove, Talikud Island, Philippines.
Franca Wermuth-Vezzoli They rather look like Phyllidia varicosa to me. Could anybody help to identify?
Blogie Robillo Thanks Franca. I hope we'll get confirmation from the others...
Blogie Robillo Is this Phyllidia coelestis or Phyllidia picta? There are no ridges and there are black rays that extend all the way to the edge of its mantle.
Depth 24m; length abt 1.5cm; Marissa 1 dive site, Samal Island, Philippines.
Jun V Lao it looks like the enemy of mario brothers :)
Blogie Robillo LOL!
Jun V Lao kidding aside, bro, pg 22 http://dragonmouse.com.au/diving/nudibase.php
Blogie Robillo Yup, I use 'em too. But this one's got me stumped. Need experts like Gary Cobb and the others here to help me out... :)
Ashley Missen picta I think
Gary CobbPhyllidia picta is correct
Blogie Robillo Yipee! Finally I have another P. picta -- in my year of uw photography I've seen this bugger only once before... :D
Gary Cobb this is Phyllidia varicosa Lamarck, 1801 and also has a black stripe down the centre of its foot.
Gary Cobb In P. picta there are radiating black "rays" that touch the mantle margin, P. varicosa does not. P. picata is very distinctive. I'll post some pics.
Gary Cobb Check out http://www.nudibranch.com.au/pages/7947a.htm and no black stripe in P. picta
Blogie Robillo Ah so those "rays" are what identify P. picta! I should really memorize those distinctions... *sigh*
