Annette Graves Whip Coral Shrimp (Dasycaris zanzibarica)? :)

Ron Silver l'd suggest this species as an alternative: Pontonides unciger, wire coral shrimp.

Annette Graves Sorry Jose, just seen a similar one of your shots on another website, and you have already done an ID, was only trying to help, great shot :)

Davide Barzazzi Perfecto!

Jose Maria Abad Ortega Yes Annette It is a Whip Coral Shrimp :) but I think that is Pontonoides uncover Ron Silver

Fabio Strazzi very nice

Jose Maria Abad Ortega Gracias Davide

Blogie Robillo I've long been trying to ID this shrimp...

Blogie Robillo Sorry about the clarity of the picture... Arne Kuilman, maybe you have an idea what this is? :)

Kati Burg I would say it is Dasycaris zanzibarica.

Blogie Robillo Thanks, Kathrin. D. zanzibarica looks awfully like Pontonides unciger, doesn't it?

Kati Burg Yes they do. Dasycaris zanzibarica has a hunchback. P. unciger not. Or was it the other way around? I get confused, too.

Blogie Robillo I think it's the other way around? :)

Arne Kuilman This is Pontoides unciger (is usually the clear one too). Dasycaris zanzibarica has large humps on the thorax and abdomen and long chelipeds. zanzibarica is a shrimp with a 'rougher' look, more angular extrusions.

Blogie Robillo Arne Kuilman - So, this is a color form? Or an albino?

Bob Whorton Their color varies with the host, from dk blue to white.

Blogie Robillo I see! Thanks, Bob. :)
