Raffaele Picardi A juvenile
Phyllidia flava?
This shot take at 20 meters.
Capo Vaticano - Tropea - Italy
Raffaele Picardi Could you help me João ?
João Pedro Silva Ah, this is an exquisite find! Not P. flava (see the gills in the back). This is probably a lessepsian migrant which has already been photographed in Malta (relatively near from where you found this one and even closer to the presumed "entry point", the Suez): Tambja limaciformis.

Raffaele Picardi Great João!! :D Thank you so much!!!!
João Pedro Silva You're welcome! You might want to check if this is the first sighting for Italy of this species.
Raffaele Picardi Wonderful to be the first to have photographed here in Italy :D
João Pedro Silva Not sure if you're the first but it's very likely :)
Raffaele Picardi :)
Lucas CerCur Probably, Tambja limaciformis. Marta Pola and other colleagues was studying material collected from Balearic Is. Unfortunately, it was not posible to get partial sequences of COI and other genes in order to compare with sequences of material from Indo-Pacific.
João Pedro Silva Lucas, besides the Balearic Islands and Malta, do you know if it had already been reported from Italy?
Lucas CerCur No, this would be the first time.
João Pedro Silva There you go, Raffaele Picardi: you've got the first sighting for Italy of Tambja limaciformis :)
Vinicius Padula I saw a photo a few months ago from the Mediterranean, need to check from where.
Lucas CerCur But the right thing would be to sequece such material (or that from Malta of Balearic Is) and compare with the sequences of T. limaciformis from Indo PAcific. Thus you would be sure.
Lucas CerCur Is the collection place close to some harbour?
Raffaele Picardi Hi Lucas! The place was approximately 2 miles from the coast. In Tirrenian sea, in South Italy, in a place called "Capo Vaticano" near Tropea.
Lucas CerCur Close to the Gulf of Naples?
João Pedro Silva The only photos I've seen from the Med. were in Malta. 3 sightings on Medslugs (2006, 2010 and 2012: http://www.medslugs.de/E/Med/Tambja_limaciformis.htm), one of them also on Nudipixel (2012) and another from October 2012 also on Nudipixel: http://www.nudipixel.net/photo/00041363/

João Pedro Silva No, it's a nudibranch:

Lucas CerCur Tienes razón João Pedro Silva, no me acordaba. Pero, es solo la única cita.
Antoni López-Arenas Cama Aquà tienes un par de citas mas en las Baleares:

Susannah Erbe which sites are you getting these lovely nudis from??
Jaime Romero Susanne, All my "nudis", I found my home in Lanzarote, Canary islands, especially on night dives.
João Pedro Silva People often forget there are hundreds of species in the Mediterranean and the NE Atlantic :)
Susannah Erbe Jaime - i used to live in Lanzarote so i was wondering which specific dive sites... i found some there but these are all new to me ;-) except the flabellinas
