Davide Lopresti Punk flabellina affinis :-)
Ralf Neubauer great job.. i love it ;-)
Alex Tattersall How? It's great
Davide Lopresti It's a plug-in effect from photoshop :-)
Amedeo Altomare co tutti l'animali strani che stanno laggiu' a est per un attimo ho vacillato, bellissimo effetto
Davide Lopresti Ma che est, nord ovest, mar mediterraneo...
Alistair Merrifield I think it is a nice effect for the hell of it and buggering around... problem is it tends to be overdone (like selective colour a few years back).
Ken Thongpila That's so cool Davide. Something different :-) and I think you pick the right photo to use that effect.
Rob Maller Been searching for this nudibranch quite some time.... is not a common seen animal, but one of my buddies knew where to find a few.....
Shot with Oly E-Pl1, 45mm Leica, Dyron wet diopter.
Alistair Merrifield very nice.... so - where are they? :)
Rob Maller They were in The Netherlands this summer...
Ken Thongpila Lovely... Very nice to see Nudis from the other side of the world :-)
Raffaele Livornese hey guys, come all to Italy next summer....we have here a lot...... :-)).....Flabellina affinis.... ;-)
Rob Maller Where and when?? :):)
Matt Krumins Great shot! Quick question though, why the diopter? I've got the 45mm on a GH2 and you can get pretty tiny critters, I've never used diopters but would love to know more
Rob Maller diopter reduces distance to subject... very important in murky waters of the Netherlands; You're looking at a critter of some 12 or 15mm...
Alistair Merrifield ... and you need a dioptre to break into super macro. some people even stack (multiple) dioptres.
Matt Krumins Thanks guys
Raffaele Livornese Rob, from march to november, in all the sea of Italy, you can find them..... and much more from other types.....:)
Ken Thongpila More stack is mean more still... Which is hard for me to stack anymore.. + 10 dioptor is maximum for me. I never get any good shot when I put more, too hard for me :-(

João Pedro Silva Yes, that's Flabellina affinis. But be aware there are two other purple Flabellina in the area and one of them is very likely to be mistaken for F. affinis: Flabellina ischitana, which lacks the purple superficial pigment on the top of the cerata.

Tony Gilbert The Flabellina affinis is shown on hydroids, probably Eudendrium. This time I deliberately photographed the hydroids alongside the nudibranch.
Any ideas on the actual id of the hydroids?
https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.173485702785521.38902.100003722780643&type=3#!/photo.php?fbid=236437336490357&set=a.173485702785521.38902.100003722780643&type=3&theater
João Pedro Silva And the third purple Flabellina found in Portugal is Flabellina affinis, easily identified by the superficial purple opaque pigment near the tip of the cerata, just under the cnidosac. Very common in the south of the country but scarse in the north. This one was shot in Tavira, Algarve, ~27m deep on the wreck of the Titan.
João Pedro Silva Canon EOS 350D, Canon 100mm macro, Ikelite housing, 2x Nikonos SB-105 strobes, f/20, 1/200s, ISO 100.
João Pedro Silva The third "Purple Flabellina" one can find in Portugal, Flabellina affinis has the characteristic purple opaque pigment near the tip of the cerata.
João Pedro Silva A very large and voracious aeolid. In fact, it was considered to be a nudibranch predator but apparently it only accidentally swallows other nudibranchs which may be feeding one the same hydroids, like Flabellina affinis, F. ischitana, F. pedata, Cratena peregrina and others.
Gary Cobb That's all good but remember Nudibranchs are hermaphrodite - Bisexual; an individual possessing functional male and female reproductive organs and capable of producing both sperm and eggs.
Amedeo Altomare thanks Max,yet we find ourselves among friends who love the sea and photography, good job to all ;-)

Ian Smith I hope Joao gets those kisses now for his effort ;-0
João Pedro Silva I decided not to identify those from "Africa" because I don't know if they're from the Mediterranean, the Atlantic or the Indian ocean.
Samantha Varns Xxx kisses an thank you xxx
João Pedro Silva Samantha Varns, next time you could allow comments on the album as it makes it a lot easier :)
Samantha Varns Sorry didn't realised it was blocked
Bernard Picton Could you add countries to the African ones?
Samantha Varns Easy they were all in Kenya diving off from mombassa the beach was Diana beach :-) xxx
João Pedro Silva We don't find Felimare picta in Sesimbra, Portugal, very often, so it's always nice to find one like today:

To find out it was the same I shot in June:

Tony Gilbert This and Flabellina affinis are the most common nudibranchs that most people sea in Lanzarote Canaries. Although, the colouration of F. picta is much deeper and richer in Lanza than the one you've shown.

João Pedro Silva One interesting thin I've found in these photos is that in November it was a lot darker than more recently. And it's true that the darker I've seen were also smaller (except the F. picta azorica subspecies).
