Ron Silver Cigar Jellyfish, Olindias phosphorica
Ron Silver Thanx, Glenn
Cameron Easton Mmm! I see the web images and how this resembles some of them. Would never have got this one in years of searching .....! Great detective work.
Ron Silver Somewhat surprisingly, the final clincher came from Gerald Allen & Roger Steene's Indo-Pacific Coral Reef Field Guide. If you happen to have this volume, check out the photo on bottom right of page 46.
Cameron Easton Well I never - perfect likeness. Who'd a thunk it. Since I got the two Indo-Pacific guides I tend to overlook this trusty friend - although it's always a staple for the Maldives. Despite the weight, it still comes with me, along with Kuiter and Coleman for the last task of the night - trying to ID the stuff I've noted during the dives (and the photos of the day that get me specially curious .... the rest have to wait till I'm home!) A salutary reminder that the answer can be close to home ..... in this case in the bookcase in the study!!!!!
Ron Silver Two more 'oldie goldies' - Tropical Pacific Invertebrates (A Field Guide to the Marine Invertebrates Occurring on Tropical Pacific Coral Reefs, Seagrass Beds and Mangroves) by Patrick Colin & Charles Arneson; and Coral Reef Animals of the Indo-Pacific by Terrence Gosliner, David Behrens, & Gary Williams.
Cameron Easton Thanks Ron. Don't have these. Will have a look out for them.
