Glynn Phillips Can you id this please?

Carrie Pillow Nurse hound Scyliorhinus Stellaris

Steven Barnard The mouth..... x

Glynn Phillips I thought it was a nurse hound. It was well over a metre long

Carrie Pillow Steve are you meaning the frilly nasal flap

Carrie Pillow Paul anf Francis Welsh fish book has a great picture showing this

Liz Morris They're right Glynn. I always think they have very different eyes too :) Nice pic

Steven Barnard Yeah, the nasal flap..... Hayward and Ryland makes it clear too. Been in blue water too long x

Rohan Holt Also being very large compared to the common LSD and spot size on the body seems to be characteristic too

Tom Stamp Did a dive at porth ellien on the 13-05-11 and found mermaid's purses wasn't sure what species it came from, however it was large, approx 10cm in length, biege in colour and there was a large Scyliorhinus stellaris (1m) located "sleeping" in area . . . thought i should mention

Liz Morris Find out which it is here... http://www.eggcase.org/view_folder.asp?folderid=6251&level2id=6237&rootid=6237&depth=2&level1=&toptab=2

Liz Morris the great eggcase hunt id sheet. You can EITHER report it on a seasearch form (yes please.... you can be qualified this year!!!) or via the eggcase hunt website (which is primarily for strandline recordings). Go-on... can i tempt you with a seasearch form?? !!!!

Steven Barnard Hi Tom. We have Great eggcase hunt id guides in the shed. Ill leave one out for you to keep. x

Andy Horton How old are Dogfish before they get their pigment please?

David Fenwick Snr Scyliorhinus stellaris are pigmented on hatching.

Andy Horton Yep, I've got a picture of one hatched out in my aquarium. It might be a Nursehound anyway ???

Andy Horton It might even be a Starry Nursehound https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10151606206380213

David Wilson I think your fish is a lighter than average smooth hound. Here is a smooth hound pup we caught 2 weeks ago near bournemouth.

Owen Loney Great photos !
